Some organizations and businesses only consider employees’ cultures, customs and religions at certain times of the year – generally, during a recognized holiday. However, the most successful organizations and professionals understand that recognizing the importance of working well with others who do not share the same beliefs, backgrounds, lifestyles and traditions is not just a yearly reminder, but instead, a workplace requirement. Recognizing, valuing and understanding people’s differences enhances communication and team effectiveness and provides employees with the dignity and respect they deserve.
