Join us for this special event - a strategic initiative session - to address our current labor shortage in a cooperative hands-on workshop approach, hosted by Sioux Empire SHRM!
This event is offered in-person only - come prepared to work with co-attendees to identify, address and join in a collaborative approach to our community's labor shortage! Due to the working purpose of this meeting, attendees are limited to 75. We will maintain a wait list in case of any cancellations!
Businesses are confronting unprecedented labor shortages that only dramatic shifts in either demographic trends or immigration policies will change. Because the current generation of business leaders has only operated in a context of a surplus labor market, they are ill equipped to deal with the new labor market and over rely on price-driven strategies on wages and benefits that will force small, shallow pocketed business to sell or fail. Surviving and thriving will require businesses to innovate internally to reduce the need for permanent headcount and externally to find new sources of labor that are not fully participating in the economy. Both of these are difficult for single businesses, but when businesses shift their paradigm from competition to cooperation through a community-wide effort to address the labor shortage, new success can be realized. Success that positively impacts businesses, workers and the health and vitality of the local community and economy.
Participants at this SESHRM event will learn and work together to discuss:
- How a community approach to addressing labor issues on both the supply and demand side of a local economy can provide a solution that benefits employers, workers, community and economic health
- Practical, collaborative methods that can be considered and implemented within our South Dakota communities, if we work together. We will brainstorm how to work differently within our organizations and be change agents in our community
Schedule
- Workshop 1:30-4:00pm (no cost)
- Social 4:00-5:00pm (cash bar)
